Upcoming Event

June 10th 4:30 – 6 pm (doors open 4 pm)
Madelyn Helling Library, Nevada City

Please join us for a presentation by Christine Foster of her father’s memoir,
A Generation of Leaves-A Ukrainian Journey
, which she co-wrote.
"It is a coming-of-age story of a young man born in Western Ukraine in 1923, a now vanished rural landscape lovingly depicted in the memoirs of the late Ivan Kochan, son of a prominent Ukrainian politician and patriot. Often charming and sometimes frightening the story not only dramatizes Ivan's growth and development but the grim and violent chapter in Ukraine's struggle for freedom and independence."

Copies of A Generation of Leaves-A Ukrainian Journey will be available for sale, all proceeds benefiting GoGlobal, a Ukrainian NGO that supports youth displaced and affected by the war. This will be the fifth in our recent series of fundraising events for this worthy charity, which was left in the lurch when funds from USAID were withdrawn over a year ago.

About Us

Nevada County Friends of Ukraine is a group of residents who came together in May 2025 to provide support to Ukraine by raising funds. In addition, we wanted to learn more about the epic history and vibrant culture of Ukraine and share that knowledge with our community.

We envision a community of concerned citizens actively supporting Ukrainians during the war and its aftermath through fundraising, education, and advocacy. We envision possibly establishing a sister city connection between Nevada City and a Ukraine city, laying the groundwork for a program of cultural exchange. We welcome all like-minded people to join us in our efforts.
